Annie Yang

Assistant Urban Designer/Planner

Annie is a current Master of Urban Planning student at the University of Melbourne. During her bachelor’s degree, she undertook a minor of spatial system and a specialisation of transport planning where she developed her interests for spatial analytics and GIS cartography that has motivated her to continue enhancing technical mapping skills and strategic planning knowledge. Her master’s study has further built on her understanding and practice of the Victorian Statutory Planning System through instrumenting state-level planning policies and local planning scheme to assess and influence development proposals.

Previously, Annie has worked as a place auditor where she assisted research in public space studies for local councils and facilitated informal community consultations on user experience. The experience has allowed her to explore further into how placemaking and engaging interactions between urban green spaces and built form facilitate attractive and walkable neighbourhoods and enrich street life. She values the use of system thinking, specifically the co-functionality of different land uses and people’s movement patterns in planning and designing the public realm.
