BCC Creek Filtration System Trials: Kedron Brook and Norman Creek 2014

The ‘Creek Filtration Systems’ Trial is a deliverable under Brisbane City Council’s ‘Cleaner Waterways Initiative’. It is a four-year trial of a range of filtration systems aimed to enhance waterway health in four of Brisbane’s major catchments.

The aim of these trials is to test and develop ‘green’ infrastructure that slows down and filters polluted stormwater from an urban catchment before it discharges into the creek tributary.

Collaborating with the project lead BMT WBM, Lat27 provided landscape design and planting advice for Kirralee Crescent and Glindermann Parks. The stormwater which flows from the nearby roads, footpaths and residential allotments is collected by an existing pit and pipe network before discharging into two separate areas including a filtration system and an adjacent existing vegetated swale which was rehabilitated as a part of these projects.

The design strategies coupled our technical knowledge and skills in detention basin design as well as our understanding that successful WSUD outcomes are those that achieve genuine integration and engagement with both the physical setting and place character.
