Building on our long involvement in the Portside precinct, we completed landscape design for the Pinnacle Apartments in collaboration with NRA on behalf of Brookfield Multiplex and Hutchinson Builders.

The public realm and building setting were designed to continue the existing pedestrian mall and create a new pedestrian spine connection through to the river. Consideration of site planning for future buildings and continuation of the spine and view corridors formed were drivers of the design.

Public realm design and soft landscaping played a key role in integrating buildings with their setting and expressing architectural form. Key design responses and features included:

• Continuity of the precinct materials and subtropical planting palettes;
• Connections to the river;
• Resolution of levels to achieve passive surveillance of the public spaces while maintaining privacy; and
• Provision of public amenities including seating opportunities, drinking fountains and bicycle parking.
