The Queen’s Wharf Priority Development Area (PDA) is a Brisbane City Centre intervention unprecedented in terms of its intent, scale and investment. Transforming the south-western precinct of the city centre, the future integrated resort will re-imagine almost one kilometre of river edge and be required to address heritage qualities, the challenging topography and the presence of the Riverside Expressway.

Our collaboration with EDQ prepared the design guideline to ensure the public realm and movement networks are delivered to the highest possible quality and will result in a new city centre place that is inviting, rich heritage values and offers world class public spaces and experiences.

The guideline is structured around five themes:

• ‘Distinct’ to maximise the advantage of our climate, creativity and heritage;
• ‘Functional’ to drive great connectivity with the CBD and surrounds;
• ‘Inviting’ to promote active and safe spaces and protect views;
• ‘Integrated’ to ensure that QWB is very much a part of our city; and
• ‘Diverse’ to encourage active and versatile spaces like plazas and laneways, pedestrian and bicycle linkages, a riverside promenade as well as flexible large-scale event areas.

Our role producing the guideline continues our long relationship with the PDA as urban design and public realm advisors to EDQ.
