In aid of a future Planning Scheme Amendment Process, and to guide the future development of the Rye Commercial Core, we prepared a series of urban design guidelines for the Mornington Peninsula Shire.

Building upon the strategic intent, community aspirations and recommendations of the ‘Rye Township Plan’ (2017) and shared visioning, we used extensive 3D design testing techniques to evaluate multiple preferred built form outcomes in order to ensure a robust proposal against Planning Panels Victoria. It made for an evidence-based framework with which to underpin the design guidelines for the Rye Commercial Core.

We also translated the design provisions into a statutory planning control, and the adoption of our guidelines will see the Core continue to thrive, distinctive in its use of high-quality architecture along the Peninsula.
