LatStudios prepared a desktop Landscape and Visual Assessment (LVA) to evaluate the potential impact of the proposed Townsville Ring Road Stage 5 (TRR5). This phase entails proposed duplication of the Douglas to Bohle Plains Section to four lanes and creation of a new intersection to provide access to the Ring Road from Beck Drive. This will enhance the safety, efficiency and connectivity of the road. The LVA included preliminary multi criteria assessment (MCA) evaluation of options for the duplication, which includes the construction of new bridge crossings and a number of new intersections. The assessment considered impacts on the landscape around Townsville, and potential impacts on affected viewers including drivers, residents, and users of the Shalom Christian College. We also advised on potential mitigation measures to reduce the identified impacts and prepared plans to support the LVA for further design development by AECOM.

Construction of the project commenced in June 2021, with expected completion in 2023.
