A place to call home, a story of re-use

We have been busy planning, designing and making a space that our Brisbane Meeanjin team is proud to call home!  At the forefront of any design, let alone our own studio, we start with the concepts of responsibility to Country and environment. We set out to find a space that was not only centrally located to promote active transport options to and from work but also a ‘green’ building with recycling facilities. We found that space at 100 Creek Street. Rejecting standard wasteful fitout processes, we worked to creatively repurpose and recycle much of the existing office fabric and former tenant’s furniture and integrate precious items from our past studios. Our vision was to create a space that felt like a design studio celebrating LatStudios’ distinctive personality, while re-using and recycling wherever possible:

• Our artwork celebrates the passion we bring to our projects:
  
  • the Currumbin Eco Parklands terrain model has become the hero sculpture piece in our arrival space
  • our work over the years is celebrated as a collection of plywood art panels\
  • artwork developed for Beenleigh Town Centre is the highlight of the kitchen
  • our old Lat27 sign is a prominent feature showcasing the evolution of our practice in our new lounge space
  • extracts from the Green Grid are celebrated as large format artworks throughout
  • meeting rooms are named after transformative projects
    
• Our arrival space table has been sculpted from reclaimed timber celebrating the beauty of the natural wood
• Layout tables graphically representing our studio locations across the years are repurposed within the new space
• Concrete floors have been polished to reveal the texture of the building slab
• Glass panels were reclaimed and reused to better support the new layout
• Furniture has been recycled for re-use
• Lighting has been upgraded for enhanced flexibility and efficiency
• Plants located throughout the studio promote workplace health
• The wellbeing of the team is our primary aim including creative spaces, break out spaces, flexible work spaces and adjustable desks.
