LatStudios undertook a Landscape and Visual Assessment (LVA) on behalf of AECOM that supported a successful Development Application by Ross River Solar Farm to Townsville City Council for the development of a solar farm of up to 148 megawatts.
The site is a 202-hectare former mango plantation located approximately 20 km southwest from the Townsville CBD. The LVA considered the existing landscape values of the study area and identified the impacts of the project on local residents and recreation areas.
The project was completed in 2018 and now generates 116 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 54,00 homes, and is considered an important step toward Townsville becoming a ‘solar city’.
